How to Stop/Cancel SAP Background Job | How to Cancel Background Job in SAP

SM37 is the transaction used for Background Job Overview and Monitoring.

From SM37,

1)You can see the details of Released, Scheduled, Active and Canceled Jobs
2)You can Change, Reschedule job, Change Job variants, Spool Recipient List, Distribution list
3)You Can View the SPool Report of the Finished job.
4)Check the Job logs of Canceled or Finished Jobs.

Canceling an active job can also be done from SM37.

There are many processes thru which we can cancel an active job, but the 2 regularly used procedure are mentioned below.

1) Cancel an active Job from SM37.

We can cancel an active job by selecting the active Job and going to Menu Job - > Cancel Active Job.

2) Kill the BGD Work process on which the Job is active.

Select the active and click on the Job Details to find the Server and the work process on which the Job is active, Once the server and Work process details are known.

Go to SM51 and login to the Application server on which the Job is active and kill the active work process from SM50.

Note : Be cautious when canceling a Background Job, Always take confirmation from the user who scheduled the Job, After you got the required approvals cancel the Job unless if it is creating severe performance issue.

Double check the Server on which the job is active and kill the process on that particular server to cancel the Active Job.
